HI!!!!!!!!! thank you very much!!! I’m really flattered aaahhh to rank all the way up there is pretty unreal hjdkfj I’m honored!!! Thank you!!!!!!!! I’m sorry I’m poor with words so I hope my exclamation marks convey my joy that you think so ok (,:……
I don’t think I’m the right person to ask since I kinda stumble my way through it but I’ll try!
Let’s start with colour! I think poor colouring tends to fall into any of these three categories- while some people can pull these off wonderfully they can go very wrong very easily so!!
Since you look like you like kazemaru I drew him for once!!

1. REALLY BORING: This results when a person doesn’t vary the hue they are using: sticking to various tones of the same hue makes for a very uniform-looking, dull skintone.
2. REALLY BRIGHT WOW: Eye-blinding colours are great for some people, but terrible for most! This is the result of only using colours along the ceiling of the colour picker box. Kazemaru looks kinda sunburnt uh
3. REALLY DEAD: It’s easy to just shift the colour selection circle downwards when you want a darker tone, but that means you end up shading with grey which is pretty gross. Even zombies look healthier than this. PlEAsE.
So how do you pick colour?
When choosing darker colours, follow a curve similar to that which I’ve drawn- it’s alright to use vibrant colours for lighter tones, but when it comes to the darker shade you should start moving downwards and away from the right hand corner. To vary tone just shift the hue bar. A guideline for beginners is to just shift towards red the darker you go, but not all the way? It’s also good to introduce other colours in but I’m not very good at that so I’ll refrain from teaching what I don’t know.
Following this guideline you could get a palette similar to this:
But picking colours by hand is sometimes really hard!!! I think so too. I’m honestly not very good with colour so I’ve got two aibous to help me:

Overlay is a good way to 1. brighten up dull shading, which often happens when you paint on black lines, or 2. introduce ambient lighting or interesting tones.
Let’s bring dead!Kazemaru to life!!
I painted a layer with the oranges and reds of healthy skin on top of the original grey zombie skin and changed that layer to overlay, and wow!!!! look how much better he looks already!!!!!!!
My second pal!! His address image>adjustments>colour balance and you should hit him up frequently if you have trouble picking colours.

just move the sliders around until you’re satisfied. It’s very easy to get nice, interesting tones that you usually don’t pick with this guy!!!
Colours aside it’s also important to show form with your skin shading???? Look at references! By right there are 1001 ways to shade depending on the lighting

But I suppose this is exactly why you shouldn’t learn from me because this is pretty much how I shade

I’m….so…rry……….
